A little bit about our short film...
“Why Are We Here?” is a short film, which takes place over multiple therapy sessions between Katherine, who has recently lost her husband to murder, and Parker, the most established therapist in town. Parker is helping Katherine process the loss of her husband, Frank, who was found murdered in their home. At first, Katherine isn’t too keen to open up about her relationship and the loss of her husband, but as the sessions go by, the audience begins to learn more about the truth.

The core theme of the film is grief, and how there are many ways of dealing with it and the stigma attached to mourning. However, this story takes a different approach to grief, as Katherine isn’t a typical “sad” person when talking about her loss. Instead, the story focuses more on the healing that comes from losing someone you love, and how in some cases, the loss isn’t entirely a bad thing.

The tone of the film is pretty dark throughout, but it will include some lighthearted moments between the characters. Nonetheless, there will be a few moments of tension as Katherine begins to open up more and Parker questions the reliability in what she is telling her, and hence the tensions in the room will rise.

Although films have become slightly more diverse over the last couple of years, there is still a noticeable lack of representation. Our film has two female lead characters, as well as two females working on it in the crew as director and producer, and it is loosely based on true experiences. It shows how losing someone isn’t always a bad thing, and how it can open doors and encourage people to start living more.
We believe that this film may resonate with a lot of people, particularly women who have experienced loss in their lives.
